BRIDGEPORT -- In his first Bridgeport Sound Tigers practice since Feb. 1, Anders Nilsson looked fresh Wednesday at Webster Bank Arena.

"Most importantly, I felt good after," said Nilsson, who shared a net with Kenny Reiter. "I can push myself and still feel good after."

For most of the season, Nilsson didn't feel that way. He missed most of the first month with the same symptoms.

When they cropped up again in late January, the team shut him down to try to figure it out.

"It was a lot of stuff," Nilsson said. "Small stuff went to a big problem. It wasn't just eat a pill and be better. I was missing some vitamins."

That led to fatigue and a lack of energy. With the help of the New York Islanders and Sound Tigers staff, he feels like he's on the right path again.

"They've been so supportive and patient with me," Nilsson said. "They wanted to figure this out and get to the bottom of it."

There's no timetable yet for his return, but that first practice, a day after his 23rd birthday, was a good first step.

"He didn't look tired," Bridgeport coach Scott Pellerin said. "He had good energy, good posture.

"He made some big saves," Pellerin added. "He's competing."

Nilsson's return was one of a handful of changes for Bridgeport, which returned to the ice for the first time since Sunday's 2-0 win over Albany.

Forward Jason Clark was recalled from Gwinnett (ECHL) after he missed five weeks to injuries. The Sound Tigers released forward Adam Huxley from a tryout, sending him back to Las Vegas (ECHL); defenseman Marc Cantin went there with him, and both should see more playing time.

The Sound Tigers also signed defenseman Mike Keenan to an amateur tryout. Keenan, from the Boston area, just finished his senior season at Dartmouth.
