The Staples High School Lacrosse Association & Fitness Factory Westport will host a team fitness competition Dec. 8 at Staples High School Stadium to raise money for cancer research.
Proceeds from "Nate's Knockout Challenge" will go to Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center to fight Ewing Ewing Sarcoma, a rare bone cancer that mainly affects teens and young adults. The fundraiser honors former Wreckers lacrosse and soccer standout Nate Greenberg, now a senior lacrosse captain at Union College, who was recently diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma.
The fundraiser is planned at 10 a.m., and competition for four-member teams will be divided into two fitness levels.
The Varsity Challenge level will include a five mile run -- each team member is responsible for five laps around the track -- 750 squats, 750 burpees and 10 minutes total time of plank hold.
The JV Challenge will include a three mile run -- each member will be responsible for three laps around the track -- 250 squats, and 250 burpees.
Winners will be the teams that complete all of the events in the least amount of time.
No individual will be responsible for completing the total number of repetitions for each exercise. Specific instructions will be provided on the day of the event to all participants.
The registration fee to participate is $25 per person or $100 per team.
