Senior captains Ellie Martin and Lianna Hursh celebrated Senior Day in style for the Weston girls basketball team.
Martin scored 21 points and picked up 16 rebounds, and Hursh was just shy of a triple-double with 18 points, seven assists, and 10 rebounds in the Lady Trojans' 52-35 home victory over Stratford.
"Liana did an excellent job scoring, and finishing inside," Weston coach Dan Rosen said. "And what can you say about Ellie? That's just a typical night for Ellie Martin, she has double digit rebounds in every game, and double digit points in every game but one, she's just a great player."
Martin and Hursh have carried the load for the Lady Trojans all year, and the duo led the way all year.
Weston raised its record to 7-11 after starting the season at 0-4.
With the win, the Lady Trojans find themselves one win away from the Class M tournament.
"I'm thrilled for Liana and Ellie to win on senior night," Rosen said. "But, the most important thing is that we are one step closer to a state-tournament berth."
The Lady Trojans need to win one of their remaining two games. They play at 4-13 Immaculate tonight in Danbury at 7 p.m. and host Joel Barlow Tuesday, Feb. 14, at 7 p.m. in the regular season finale.
Weston also has a shot at the SWC playoffs if it wins both ganes, but the Class M tournament berth looks like a more attainable goal.
If the Lady Trojans make the tournament, they would be a lower seed but could be a force to be reckoned with.
"We need one more win to get to eight and reach the state tournament," Rosen said. "And that has been our goal all season; and if we get in we'll definitely be a dangerous team."
Juniors Anna Mahony (six points, 13 rebounds, four blocked shots) and Taylor Swanson (five points, 10 rebounds, six assists) and sophomore Lindsay Koch (two points) also contributed.
