New all-star game announced
The Connecticut High School Coaches Association, in conjunction with the four state branches of the National Football Foundation, recently announced the creation of the Hall of Fame Classic All-Star Football Game.
The game will be played on June 29 at 4:30 p.m. at Rentschler Field in East Hartford and replaces both the Governor's Cup game between Connecticut and Rhode Island, as well as the Hall of Fame Classic that pits Fairfield County All-Stars against New Haven County All-Stars.
The new all-star game will consist of 110 of the state's top players, who will be selected following a tryout March 24 at the New Haven Field House.
SCC/FCIAC football crossover schedule
The SCC and FCIAC have finalized the dates and times of the 24 games--17 during Week 1 and the seven additional "bye week" games later in the season--they will play during the 2013 regular season.
Staples' matchup will be against three-time defending Class LL state champion Xavier in Middletown on Sept. 12 at 6 p.m. The game will be a rematch of the 2011 state title game, which Xavier won 42-7.
SWC/NVL football crossover schedule
The SWC and NVL announced the matchups of 11 games between the two leagues during both the 2013 and 2014 regular seasons. The games will be played in Week 6 in both seasons.
The matchups, which were announced recently following approval by the CIAC, were determined based on the won-loss records of the schools over the last two seasons. The home team will determine the date and time of their respective game.
In 2013, Weston will host Holy Cross. The Trojans will visit Woodland in 2014.
