Gunnery girls hockey team wins New England title

The Gunnery's girls varsity hockey team won the Division II New England championship with a 4-2 victory over the Millbrook School on March 3.

In championship game, Katlyn Paiva and Kayla Meneghin accounted for all the Gunnery's goals. Isabela Bagi was awarded the Tournament MVP for her defensive efforts. Samantha Walther earned the victory in goal.

"The senior leadership was stellar," said Gunnery athletic director Jon Russillo in a press release. "Isabela Bagi, Jacqueline Hagopian, Jo-Anna Jacobs, Katherine Quinlan, Charlotte Stevens and Erin Sullivan should be commended for their commitment to the team. The strong example that they set rubbed off on the other team members."

The five seniors accepted the trophy at the end of the competition.

Following a stellar regular season (15-4-1), the Gunnery defeated Greenwich Academy in the New England quarterfinals and Middlesex in the semifinals.

The team is coached by Harry Geary and assistants Kate Marek and Hugh Caldera.
