Greenwich girls basketball team falls to New Canaan in LaVista Tournament

A slow start hurt the Greenwich High School girls basketball team in its 43-29 loss to New Canaan in the opening round of the LaVista Tournament at New Canaan High School on Monday.

The Cardinals trailed 10-1 after the first quarter, but outscored the Rams 13-8 in the second.

Leading 28-23 after three quarters of play, New Canaan, took control in the final quarter by outscoring GHS 15-9.

Senior center Erin Laney scored a game-high 16 points to lead Greenwich. Jen Biagiotti and Jessica Fiscella added five points apiece for the Cards. Sarah Mannelly and Allie Warlich each scored 11 points for the Rams.

Greenwich will face Darien in the tournament's third place game today at 3 p.m. at New Canaan High School. New Canaan will play Wethersfield in the championship game at 5 p.m.
