Greens Farms Academy fall previews

Girls soccer: With nine players returning, Greens Farms Academy hopes to compete for FAA and New England titles. Leading the defense will be seniors Cole Vanacore and Georgie Garner, junior Campbell Goldsmith and sophomores Erin Reilly, Ingrid Backe and Lexi Kimball.

Up front, the Dragons will be led by seniors Tia Carson and Rachel Cohen, junior Olivia Lennon, sophomore Ellie Wong and freshman Clare Mengel. Senior Caroline Kruk is expected to start in goal.

The Dragons open their season at home against the Harvey School on Sept. 11 at 4 p.m.

Boys soccer: Led by an experienced group of seniors, the Dragons will again look to make an impact in the FAA and WNEPSSA.

Senior captains Brendan Bieder, Conor Eckert, John Lawrance, and Wyatt Cook will be joined by classmates Leo Filgueiras and Eric Dexheimer to make up the core of the team.

Juniors Griffin Garner (assistant captain), Dugald Shannon and Henry Soule are also expected to contribute, as are sophomores Charlie Mounts and Ben Strait.

Freshmen Mike Medvedev, Will Harned and Gabe Dumoulin will also be vying for spots in the lineup.

GFA opens its season at Cheshire Academy on Sept. 11 at 4:30 p.m.

Field hockey: The Dragons are looking forward to a strong season with contributors returning.

The team will be led by seniors Maggie Sherin and Hayley Holzinger (co-captains), with the help of classmate JJ Rattray to anchor the midfield.

The forward line will be led by seniors Olivia Taylor and Chloe Perlen, with returnees Nicole Litt and Tatiana Crawford also boosting the offense. Freshmen Maggie Kelly and Kate Paliotta are also expected to contribute up front.

Juniors Juliet Fontana and Lily McGonagle are being counted on to control the defense, along with sophomore Olivia Reynolds. Junior Jenny Ross will be in goal for a third season.

The Dragons will open their season at home on Sept. 10 against St. Luke's at 4:15 p.m.

Girls volleyball: Fresh off a New England championship, the Dragons return only three players.

Yet, the Dragons are expecting a strong season with junior setter Claire Comey, senior middle hitter Jenny Ball and senior outside hitter Laura Reul returning.

The Dragons will add young hitters to the front line with sophomores Allie Carey, Nina Rodgers and Susannah Johnson. Guarding the back row will be junior Hayes Marcus, sophomores Rory Shinnick and Lucy Webb, and freshman Megan Sinnott.

The Dragons start the season by hosting league rival Convent of the Sacred Heart on Sept. 12 at 4:30 p.m.

Girls cross country: The Dragons will look to replace their top five runners from a year ago.

The returnees include senior captains Liza Rebold and Arabella Crawford, as well as junior Crosbie Marine.

Senior captain Priya Gupta will provide much-needed leadership.

The newcomers are junior Madi Sweedler and sophomores Maggie Boudreau and Carmen Martin.

The team kicks off the season at Sherwood Island on Sept. 18 at 4:30 p.m.

Boys cross country: GFA returns eight seniors, led by captain Andrew McCarty and Luiz Macado.

Other seniors looking to earn a spot in the top seven are captains Mark Whittaker and Andrew Holliday, and Arthur Doelp. Seniors Dan Paliotta, Drew Kimball and Tristan Schietinger will look to finish their careers with their best seasons.

Junior Danny Ross and sophomore Alex McCall are looking to build off of strong preseason workouts. Others that hope to contribute are juniors Kourosh Saghri and Adam Petno.

The team kicks off the season at Sherwood Island on Sept. 18 at 4:30 p.m.
