GFA roundup: Wolfe wins FAA boys tennis title

The Dragons (6-1) traveled to Rye Country Day April 29 and picked up a 5-2 win. No. 1 Gabe Tishman, No. 2 Kyle Wolfe and No. 4 Uday Avula all won singles matches for the Dragons.
GFA went into the doubles round up 3-1, but dropped a tough match at No. 2 doubles, which put the score at 3-2 with two matches remaining. GFA dropped the first sets in both matches, but both teams regrouped and captured the second set. At No. 1 doubles, Danny Ross and Rielly Carter were down a couple of breaks, and then multiple match points. The duo rebounded to win the final set 7-5 and the match for the Dragons.
Last weekend, the Dragons participated in the FAA tournament, which was hosted by Hopkins. Wolfe advanced to the finals, where he defeated Hopkins' Peter Conklin 7-5, 6-4 to capture his second straight FAA singles title.

GFA (2-5) dropped three straight matches. First, the Dragons fell 5-2 to Kingswood-Oxwood April 28. GFA was swept in singles, but claimed two of three doubles victories. The teams of Avery Wolfe and Georgie Garner (Westport), and Maggie Sherin and Blair Marine claimed victories.
The Dragons then lost to Greenwich Academy May 1 and Miss Porter's May 3.
GFA (7-4) fell 11-10 to Convent of the Sacred Heart April 29. The Dragons had a two-goal lead with five minutes left, but the Tigers rallied to tie the game with 1:28 left. Sacred Heart won the ensuing draw and controlled the ball until the final seconds, before firing the winning goal with 4.1 seconds left. Ingrid Backe had three goals while Tia Carson (Westport) and Kate Paliotta (Westport) each had two goals and an assist.
The Dragons rebounded to rout Masters School 17-2 May 2. 10 players scored in the win for GFA.
The Dragons (4-5) traveled to Ardsley Country Club and defeated Masters 8-1 April 29. Freshman Curtis Tauck (Westport) won the first Medalist Honor of his high school career by shooting a 41. Jack Wood, Kevin Wong, Alex McKenna and Dustin Cook (Westport) all won their individual matches.
GFA competed against Fairfield Ludlowe and Fairfield Warde May 2. The Dragons defeated Warde 2-0, but lost to Ludlowe 2-0.
On May 4, the women's sailors sailed to a fourth place finish in the Manchester-by-the-Sea, (Mass.) meet, to qualify them for the Herreshoff Trophy. Allie Nixon, Caroline Booth, Eliza Nixon and Marguerite Courtemanche qualified the team for the Championship Trophy, which takes place May 11.
The Dragons defeated St. Luke's 6-1 April 29 and lost15-5 to Rye Country Day May 5. Against St. Luke's, sophomore Jules Becker (Westport) pitched five innings and had seven strikeouts, two hits and no walks.
The GFA Softball team (1-7) lost 21-7 to the Masters School April 29.
