The GFA boys basketball team (9-2, 6-2 FAA) defeated Hopkins 64-52 Jan. 15, but then had its calander-year, 27-game winning streak snapped in overtime against Masters (61-57) Jan. 17 and again Jan. 22 (57-47).
Against Hopkins, Andrew Chase knocked down a three pointer midway in the second half to GFA up 48-41, and the Dragons went on for the win. Zach Baines scored a game-high 21 points, pulled down 17 rebounds and had six blocks.
In GFA's overtime loss to Masters, GFA had a 17-point lead with eight minutes remaining, only for Masters to come all the way back and prevail in the extra session. Baines contributed 20 points, 16 rebounds and seven blocks while Matt Tate added 15 points and six steals. Freshman forward Sunday Okeke had eight points and 12 rebounds.
The loss temporarily put GFA into a three-way tie for first place in the FAA with Masters and St. Luke's.
The Dragons fell to Masters for a second time on Wednesday 57-47. Baines led the team with 18 points, while Tate added 13 points and three assists. Okeke was limited to two points as a result of foul trouble.
