The Westport-Weston Family Y Water Rat Age Group team will send a record number of swimmers to represent Connecticut at the Eastern Zone Championships in Richmond, Va., Aug. 6-9. The meet is the highest level of competition for age group swimmers and will include the best swimmers from the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions.

Led by coaches Betsy Matheney and Mark Sedlak, the team will be represented by Lily Cumello, Marissa Healy, Tucker Ballou, Esme Hunter, Dashiell Hunter, Jack Rogers, Sean Rogers, Olivia Utter and Nathan Wang.

The Water Rats are coming off a strong showing at the Connecticut Long Course Age Group Championships which were held July 24-27at Wesleyan University in Middletown. Seven Water Rat records were broken over three days of competition. Hunter, 12, broke three records in the 50, 100 and 200 meter backstroke. Wang, 12, set new marks in the 50 and 100 breaststroke.
