DeBalsi and Staples girls cross country remain perfect

The Staples girls cross country team kept its perfect start to the season in tact with an impressive 5-0 win over Greenwich, Trumbull, Brien McMahon, St. Joseph and Harding on Tuesday afternoon at Greenwich Point. The Wreckers (16-0), currently ranked third in the state, beat the Cardinals 17-46.

Hannah DeBalsi won the 3.1-mile race in a blistering, course-record time of 14 minutes, 55 seconds. DeBalsi eclipsing the course record by 30 seconds. Teammate Erica Hefnawy finished second (16:37), narrowly beating out Kristin Burnham of Brien McMahon (16:40) and Elisabeth French from St. Joseph (17:06).

The course record for DeBalsi was her fifth in five races this fall.
