Though summer is rapidly coming to a close, it doesn't mean it's time to put your golf clubs away.
Fall is a great time to continue to work on your game. The weather is cooler, courses are less crowded and if you're looking to save a few bucks like me, the greens fees/rates at the municipal courses are lower. I spoke with some of the head professionals at a number of public courses about some current and fall specials that are being offered. Here's a sampling of courses you may want to visit and the deals they're offering:
GRIFFITH E. HARRIS GOLF COURSE
1300 King St., Greenwich
Head professional: Joe Felder
Specials: Guests can play at The Griff for $40 on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday starting at noon. The normal price is $48 after 4 p.m. and $64 all other times. On Monday, the $40 special for guests applies all day. Members can play the 6,512-yard course for $21 each Monday, instead of the usual $29 greens fee.
STERLING FARMS GOLF COURSE
1349 Newfield Ave., Stamford

Fall specials: Juniors 15-and-under can play for free at the par-72 course after 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday with a paying parent or guardian throughout September. Parents or guardians must play with the junior and there is a limit of one child per paid adult. In September, seniors and juniors with a Stamford resident permit can play for $29 -- a price that includes cart and greens fee. The cart and greens fee for adults with a Stamford resident permit is $33. For reservations call 203-322-6669.
