A property in the foothills of Fairfield's 186-acre Brett Woods is the perfect recreational compound for a family of sports enthusiasts.

The Georgian Colonial house at 15 Gilbert Highway -- the street in the Greenfield Hill section of town is no "highway" in the usual sense -- and its 3.52-acre grounds can accommodate a range of recreational activities. It has a putting green in the back yard near the outdoor summer kitchen, an indoor batting cage in the full unfinished basement and a heated Gunite in-ground swimming pool with a waterslide feature built into the landscaped hillside. The pool is surrounded by honed granite and a bull-nosed granite terraced patio.

There is access to tennis courts as this property is part of the Stonybrook homeowners' association. This house is located on a corner lot at the intersection of Gilbert Highway and Westport Turnpike, or Route 136, near the Westport and Weston town lines. On the other side of Westport Turnpike there is a stream for fishing and a swimming hole.

Brett Woods also offers fishing and miles of trails for hiking and horseback riding. This level and sloping property with open and wooded areas could also accommodate horses.

This is a great property for pet lovers, too. It has several pet-friendly features, including an electronic doggie door to an enclosed dog run in the backyard and built-in dog crates in the mudroom. There is a second enclosed dog run on one side of the house.

Above all, this is a great property for all kinds of entertaining. The large guest house/pool house has a living room with a vaulted ceiling, floor-to-ceiling stone fireplace, and sliding door to the pool. There are also his and hers changing rooms with private lockers, bath rooms and tumbled marble floors, and a laundry room with a sink.

The pool house is attached to a three-car stone and clapboard garage and on the second floor of both are a large, unfinished storage room and a wood deck. There is a second three-car garage, this one attached to the house.

Built in 2006, this 8,290-square-foot house contains several energy-efficient features including a generator, Thermopane windows and ceiling fans.

Inside, the layout of the foyer is atypical. The staircase is not immediately visible. There is a large wet bar between the family room and formal living room. A butler's pantry sits between the formal dining room and custom gourmet kitchen. It has a sink, dishwasher, wine cooler and cabinets.

In the living room the fireplace has a dark Emperador marble surround and antiqued mantle with detailed millwork and dentil molding. There is antique crown molding and Wainscoting on the lower walls of the living and dining rooms.

In the kitchen features include inset beaded door frame cabinets, honed Calacatta marble counters, large center island, eat-in area and two stainless sinks. High-end appliances include a GE Monogram refrigerator and six-burner range with a grill and Bosch dishwasher. There is a Dutch door separating the kitchen from the mudroom.

The family room has a tray ceiling, granite fireplace, and French doors to a patio. The fireplace in the office, or study, is also granite. This room has French doors to the putting green and patio with the built-in kitchen/grilling area.

On the second floor there are five bedrooms, four of them en suite, and another laundry room. Over the garage is a large bonus room. The third floor has two more bedrooms, a full bath, office, window seats and built-in drawers.
