On the market: Expansive grounds afford privacy

The pleasant drive up bucolic Laurel Road pays off when house No. 343 is reached. The private, quiet property -- replete with rhododendrons, elm trees and chirping birds -- is a great match to the brick Colonial that blends well with the expansive grounds.
The front entrance starts on a large half-moon of terrace surrounded by hedges -- a stately picture with its broad columns.
The inside features dark oak floors and the low-key elegance found in an older home. This one is circa 1938.
A curve of staircase turns gently up to the right. As the foyer passes underneath to the right, two steps down lead into tandem living rooms. While they're basically almost one -- divided by two large archways -- the east side room has an entire wall of windows, set in two double-width sliding doors, along with another on the south side. Couple this area, which looks out over a view of the completely private backyard and pool, with the other living room on the east side with its fireplace, and one can be already sold on this place.
Straight on from the main entrance is the formal dining room, which not only has a corner fireplace, but a recessed curve of floor-to-ceiling windows, again taking advantage of the backyard view.
This leads into the kitchen, which initially feels busy, but is so traditionally elegant that it would be wrong any other way. There are two islands, one of which is L-shaped with two separate sinks. A Garland six-burner range with a separate griddle is a plus, along with a separate oven and built-in refrigerator. The cabinets are two large sets of classic built-ins with glass doors.
The east side of the kitchen opens up into a family room with a stone hearth surrounded by tons of windows, again with a view out back.

Outdoors, the property in the back dips down, and a pool with a waterfall has been built onto a lower terrace. Beyond this, the woods are thick and an ideal backdrop.
The back entrance, which leads into the kitchen, passes a back family room, which features more windows, including a window seat on one wall. There is also a potential bedroom near this entrance, which has a whole wall of staggered built-ins and a bathroom.
To the left of the main entrance is an office with another fireplace, wood paneling and a half bath. The room is full of bookshelves and is designed in such a way that an entire half is recessed with a big window. Another door out of this room opens to the back staircase.
Two upstairs bedrooms share a bathroom. There is also a hall bathroom to service two other bedrooms separate from the master.
