A house in the Coleytown section of town straddles what many would say is the best of both worlds. It is close to the Fairfield border and, as one woman put it, the Westport side is more representative of the culture and sophistication of New York and the Fairfield side reflects a New England character with all its charm and warmth.

The newly constructed Ron Dominici Builders' shingle-style Colonial at 6 Cardinal Lane sits on a two-acre, level parcel in a sparsely populated neighborhood, where many of the houses are on large properties dotted with trees that provide privacy. Adding to that privacy is that Cardinal Lane is a cul-de-sac and it is off another cul-de-sac, Tupelo Road.

Cross over Deadman Brook on Tupelo Road to get to Cardinal Lane. Tupelo is off Sturges Highway close to the intersection of Cross Highway, so this house is not far from the Patterson Club, and conveniences -- like shopping, restaurants, Metro-North train service, the Merritt Parkway and Interstate 95, are only about 15 minutes away in any direction.

The house is set well back from the road. The shingled exterior features a stone fa├žade around the formal, covered front entrance and the side door. There is ample parking for guests.

Inside, there is 7,400 square feet of finished living space with a traditional flow and custom mill work. With one "foot" firmly planted in the tradition of a classical Colonial, this house also has its nod to the present. It has an open floor plan and many energy efficient features including extra insulation, radiant heat, ridge vents, tank-less hot water and Thermopane insulated windows.

The two-story paneled foyer features a curved staircase. There are fireplaces in the formal living and family rooms. A third fireplace is found in the second floor master bedroom suite.

The family room and master fireplaces are stone and go from floor to ceiling. The living room has a coffered ceiling and Wainscoting on the lower walls, and the formal dining room also enjoys the same features, minus a fireplace.

Between the dining room and spacious gourmet kitchen is a butler's pantry with two marble counters, built-in cabinets and a beverage refrigerator. The kitchen is also open to the family room.

In the kitchen there is a large center island topped with Carrera marble. The perimeter counters and the backsplash comprise the same marble. Among the other features are high end appliances, double dishwashers, a sunny breakfast nook, glass front cabinets, and a built-in desk area. A door in the kitchen leads to the stone patio in the backyard and the French doors in the family room access the balcony/deck.

Rounding out the first floor is an office with built-on cabinetry.

On the second floor there are five bedrooms, all en suite. The master has its own sitting room, which could be used instead as an office, exercise room or dressing room to complement the walk-in closet. The Carrera marble master bath features a steam shower, radiant heat flooring, and a soaking tub.

The large bonus room above the garage can be used in numerous ways, such as a recreation or play room, media room or art studio.

There will be an open house at the property on Sunday, April 27, from 1 to 4 p.m.
