An entity linked to luxury apartment developer Waypoint Residential has snatched up 17 acres of vacant land across the street from SeaWorld San Antonio.

Waypoint San Antonio Westover Owner bought the land, at the northeast corner of Military Drive and Ellison Drive, on Dec. 30 from Wells Fargo Bank, county property records show. The purchase price was undisclosed, but the entity borrowed $24.3 million to make the purchase.

The area around SeaWorld San Antonio has been growing fast, and SeaWorld itself has announced plans to develop resorts on properties it owns next to its local park. The land bought by Waypoint is next to Texas 151, which has acted as a conduit for growth.

Waypoint, which has its headquarters in Chicago, builds class A apartment complexes in the Sunbelt region, according to its website. Representatives of the firm didn’t respond to a request for comment Monday.

Wells Fargo took possession of the 17-acre property in 2009 after it went through foreclosure under a previous owner, DBSI Escala, records show.
