The 12-year old Weston boy who died as a result of a Wilton bicycle accident Monday afternoon has been identified as Joseph "A.J." Cina, according to neighbors and family members.

Cina was killed when he lost control of his bike on a downhill section of Cedar Road shortly before 4:50 p.m.

According to Lt. Donald Wakeman, Wilton police delayed identifying the boy at the request of his family.

Police said their initial investigation determined that Cina and two other boys from Weston, ages 12 and 13, were riding east when the victim lost control of his bicycle and ran off the east shoulder in the vicinity of 150 Cedar Road.

Cina's bicycle struck a slight incline along the mouth of a driveway, throwing him over a stone wall, according to the initial police report.

The boy, who was not wearing a helmet, sustained serious injuries to his head and face and was transported by Wilton EMS to Norwalk Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, police said.

Anyone who may have seen the boys on their bicycles is asked to call Wilton police at 203-834-6260.
