Born in Wilkinsburg, Pa., July 21, 1909, she was the daughter of the late Sherman James Plummer and Frances Belle Younker Plummer.
She received her degree from Oberlin College in 1931 and her master's degree from Teachers College, Columbia University.
She moved to Westport in 1937, where she taught Latin at Staples High School until her retirement in 1971. She returned to Wellston in 1979 where she attended the Hope United Methodist Church and belonged to the Southern Hills Arts Council, the Vergilian Society of America and the Wellston Historical Association.
Survivors include friends, former students and colleagues.
She was predeceased by her husband, John W. Kearns; and her sister, Olive Plummer Townsend, and brother-in-law, Lawrence W. Townsend.
A graveside service was held April 18 at Ridgewood Cemetery with family friend Jason R. Winters officiating. She requested that contributions be made in her memory to a favorite charity.
