Mary Chandler's family has been on the land since 1885. Farmers and ranchers in Austin and Waller counties are fighting a private company's plans to pump 20 million gallons of water a day from the aquifer beneath them and send it to the growing Fort Bend County suburbs. Opponents are worried about the availability of water, as well as subsidence. Mary Chandler is worried about losing her water and subsidence if the the permits are granted.
