A few sunny, warm days are likely in the Houston region, but rain is possible late on the weekend and cool-down is expected early next week.

Temperatures through much of the weekend are expected to be above normal for this time of year, according to the National Weather Service. But forecasters said a weak Pacific cold front and an upper-level disturbance may hit the area sometime Sunday, sparking showers and dropping temperature early next week.

"We should start seeing scattered showers Saturday afternoon," said Charles Roeseler, a meteorologist with the weather service.

On Friday, the high will be about 72 degrees under mostly sunny skies. The low will be near 56.

Normally, temperatures range between about 45 and 65 degrees.

Roeseler said clouds will probably build above the area and rain may be possible Saturday as the systems approach the region. The high will be near 71 degrees. A 20 percent chance of showers is possible in the afternoon. The low will be about 64.

Rain chances increase Sunday to 40 percent. Roeseler said the best chances for rainfall may be north of Houston near Conroe, Huntsville and Crockett. Areas south of Interstate 10, he added, have a lower chance for showers.

The high will be about 78. Breezy southwest winds will be between about 10 mph and 15 mph with gusts up to 20 mph. The low will be about 55.

Rain chances continue early next week, when a 30 percent chance is possible Monday and Tuesday. The highs each day will be in the lower to upper 60s. The lows will be in the lower 40s to lower 50s.

By Wednesday, the sun will probably peek out. The high will be near 62. The low will be about 39.
