A wrong-way driver died late Thursday night when she slammed into another car on the 610 Loop in northeast Houston.
The crash happened about 10:25 p.m. at 6900 North Loop East near Homestead, according to the Houston Police Department.
Police said witnesses reported that the victim was driving a gray 2006 Chevrolet Impala the wrong way on the North Loop when she slammed into a gray Mercury Grand Marquis that was traveling eastbound on the freeway.
The 26-year-old woman driving the Impala was injured and rushed to Ben Taub General Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
The man driving the Grand Marquis had minor injuries.
Police said alcohol is believed to have contributed to the crash, but investigators did not reveal what led them to that conclusion.
The case is being investigated.
