A woman has been charged with deadly conduct, accused of firing shots Thursday outside a Houston television station.
Michelle Monique Burks was charged in the shooting at KTRK Channel 13, 3310 Bissonnet near Rutgers in southwest Houston.
Five shots hit the windows in the front of the building. Spent bullets were found inside an office where a woman had been working at the time of the shooting. A bullet hit one car in the parking lot.
Officers with the West University Police Department spotted the car and stopped it in the 4700 block of Richmond, Pleasant said.
The woman was brought back to the scene and was identified by witnesses who were outside at the time of the shooting.
KTRK issued a statement thanking a witness who photographed the incident and was able to help police identify the suspected shooter.
Pleasant said police have recovered a semi-automatic gun. She said it's unclear what led to the shooting.
Philip Bruce, station manager for KHOU Channel 11, said his station has received odd e-mails from a woman of the same name. In the e-mails, she accused the station of spying on her or telling her story without her permission, Bruce said. Once, she sent a copy of her driver's licence.
"My reporter recognized her on the scene," Bruce said, adding that none of the e-mails were threatening.
It was the second shooting at the station in just over a month.
Before dawn on Feb. 20, shots were fired toward the parking lot. No injuries were reported, but five cars were damaged by bullets.
