UH alert canceled after gun threat proves false

UPDATE: 

Portions of the University of Houston were on high alert after a man was reportedly thought to be carrying a gun on campus late Tuesday morning.

However, authorities found the man and he did not have a gun, according to school's emergency alert system.

School officials said the man was carrying an inventory scanner. The alert was canceled about 12:30 p.m.

 

ORIGINAL REPORT:

Portions of the University of Houston are on high alert after a man was reportedly seen carrying a gun on campus late Tuesday morning.

A man described as being Asian and wearing a white T-Shirt and blue jeans and armed with a gun was reportedly spotted at or near Philip G, Hoffman Hall, according to the school's emergency alert system. The alert was current as of noon.

Students and others were warned to stay away from the area where the man was seen.
