Suspects in custody after unrelated police standoffs

Police officers were held at bay in two separate standoffs early Friday morning in south Houston.
Houston police officers took a man into custody after a tense two-hour standoff following an alleged attack on his wife about 4:30 a.m., at a home at 13000 block of Donegal Way near Almeda Genoa, said Kese Smith, a spokesman for the Houston Police Department.
The man was taken into custody about 6:30 a.m.
Smith said the incident began when the husband allegedly assaulted the woman at the home. The woman fell on their bed during the attack and the man fired several shots into the bed. The woman was not wounded. She escaped, ran outside and called 911.
When police arrived, the man refused to come outside of the residence. SWAT officers were dispatched to the scene to help, but a patrol sergeant was able to coax the man to surrender without incident before the SWAT officers arrived.
The woman had minor injuries from the assault.
In the other, unrelated, standoff federal agents and DPS troopers took a suspect into custody about 5 a.m. at a home in the 4700 block of Scenic near Airport.
No other information was immediately available about the case. More details will be reported as the story develops.
