A suspected burglar is in custody after leading Houston police on a short chase, officials said.

Officials said a man was trying to kick in a door to an apartment at 12000 Martin Luther King Boulevard in south Houston about 2:30 p.m. When officers arrived, the man left in a vehicle, said Houston Police Department spokeswoman Jodi Silva.

A chase ensued, which lasted less than 10 minutes.

The driver stopped his vehicle and tried to run from the scene at 9400 Cullen in a Fiesta parking lot, police said. He was caught by officers and taken into custody, Silva said.

Police are investigating reports that someone was hit during the chase, but Silva could not confirm.

Silva said an accident unit was called to the parking lot.
