A man having difficulty breathing called 911 early Saturday morning and authorities later found him dead in a submerged car near Sugar Land.

The call made at 3:25 a.m. ended with a lost connection after a dispatcher tried to ask the man about his location. He couldn't respond, said Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Bob Haenel.

They tried pinging the nearest cell tower to identify his location, but the phone was off.

Deputies began a search near the man's home and found a submerged vehicle in a creek.

The Fort Bend County Fire Department's dive team came to the scene shortly after 4 a.m. and found a man dead inside the car.

The man's name has not yet been released.
