As Roxy was flying the 1,400 miles from Houston to New Jersey on Sunday, her owner was driving from his Pennsylvania home to pick her up.
BARC, the city's animal control agency, found the German shepherd on Friday caught in a fence. Following standard procedure, the animal control officer scanned Roxy and discovered a microchip identifying her owner as "a grandpa in Pennsylvania," BARC wrote on its Facebook page.
The owner told BARC officials that his granddaughter had stolen Roxy from his home. BARC worked with the owner and Natural Pawz, a pet store in Houston, to arrange a flight home on United Airlines.
"We are really pumped we could help write a good ending to the story for Roxy," BARC wrote on its Facebook page.
