A man died Thursday afternoon when a car slammed into a stalled vehicle while he was getting tools from the trunk of the disabled car in the service road of the Sam Houston Parkway in northwest Harris County.

Pierre Lenon was killed in the incident, which occurred about 2:45 p.m. in the 4000 block of the eastbound North Beltway 8 West service road, according to the Harris County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies said Lenon was the front seat passenger in a blue 1984 Chevrolet Caprice that was traveling eastbound on the service road when the car stalled in the middle lane of traffic.

Lenon got out of the car and was standing at the rear of the vehicle getting tools out of the trunk when the driver of a white 2010 Dodge Caliber that was traveling eastbound on the roadway tried to avoid hitting the Caprice, but failed to control her speed and slammed into the rear of the disabled car.

Deputies said Lenon died at the scene. The driver of the Caliber was taken to a nearby hospital. She had minor injuries. No other injuries were reported.

Deputies are investigating the case.
