One of the state's most wanted sex offenders was arrested in Houston this week, Texas Department of Public Safety officials said.

Authorities Nicholas Vonwayne Prejean, 24, who was wanted for failure to register as a sex offender and probation violation, was arrested around 6:30 p.m. Friday at a house in Houston, officials said. Two others at the residence were also arrested on unrelated misdemeanor warrants.

Prejean, who is considered a high-risk sex offender, has a lengthy criminal history, including charges for aggravated sexual assault of a child, according to the DPS website.

Investigators located Prejean through a tip. The tipster will receive $3,000, officials said.

So far this year, DPS and other agencies have arrested 13 of Texas' 10 Most Wanted Fugitives and Sex Offenders, including five gang members. About $20,500 in rewards has been paid for tips that resulted in arrests. The cash rewards are funded by the Governor's Criminal Justice Division.
