Galleria bridge closures to begin next month

Drainage channel upgrades will cause temporary bridge closures in the Galleria beginning next month, the Harris County Flood Control District announced.
The upgrades will force the closure of two 50-year-old street bridges as they are rebuilt.
The Westheimer Road bridge over the channel is expected to begin next month. Traffic will be limited to one lane in each direction for about a month, the release said.
The San Felipe Street bridge will start this summer, closing all lanes for as long as two weeks.
The two mile channel flows from Westpark inside West Loop 610 and drains into Buffalo Bayou on the southern edge of Memorial Park. Along the way, it crosses under U.S. 59, Richmond, Westheimer and San Felipe.
City and county authorities warn that weather or construction issues could again change the dates.
Signs announcing the closure dates and marking detours will be installed prior to the construction.
