One person died and another was in critical condition following a traffic crash on Interstate 45 in Conroe Thursday morning.

The wreck occurred about 7:15 a.m. on the southbound freeway near Gladstell, according to the Conroe Police Department.

Sue Powell, 62, died when the three-wheel motorcycle on which she was a passenger collided with the rear of a Ford F-350 truck that had either stopped or slowed significantly in heavy traffic, police said.

Her husband, Marion Powell, 61, who was driving the motorcycle, was transported to Conroe Regional Medical Center in critical condition, according to a news release from the Conroe Police Department.

Both Powells were ejected from the motorcycle, police said.

According to the news release, the couple were involved in another accident on I-45 in October, when their motorcycle struck a woman.

The woman, who had fallen off a motorcycle that collided with the center median, was killed in the accident, the release said.

Thursday's fatal motorcycle accident occurred just north of the scene of another crash about an hour earlier, when a big-rig car-hauler overturned on the southbound freeway, temporarily blocking four lanes.
