A driver was severely injured after he slammed into the side of a Houston Independent School District bus in southwest Houston on Friday morning.
The collision happened about 6:30 a.m. at 7500 Beechnut near Braeburn Valley, according to the Houston Police Department.
Three high school students and the driver were aboard the bus. One of the students, was taken to Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital. No details of her possible injuries were released, but police said they were non life-threatening.
Police said the bus driver pulled away from a stop sign and was turning left to travel westbound on Beechnut when the driver of a black Honda sedan that was traveling eastbound on Beechnut hit the bus broadside.
Police said witnesses told investigators the Honda was traveling at a high rate of speed and the driver appeared to accelerate moments before the impact.
The injured driver was rushed to Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital. He was in critical condition.
Police were investigating the crash.
