A passenger died Sunday morning when a car clipped a tractor trailer on the Eastex Freeway.
Shortly after 6 a.m., a white Cadillac Deville driving northbound on U.S. 59 near the Highway 288 interchange crossed the median into incoming traffic, said Houston Police Department Spokesman Kese Smith. The car was hit by a tractor trailer, causing it to spin and slam against a shoulder wall.
A passenger was dead in the rear seat when authorities arrived at the scene. Smith said several people were in the car, but a man and a woman fled the scene. Their identities and descriptions were not available, or the conditions of other passengers.
"Based on evidence recovered at the scene, alcohol may have been a factor," Smith said.
Anyone with information about the incident is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
