Yuriy Melnyk, 26, of Red Coat Road, was charged Sunday night with driving under the influence on Riverside Avenue. An officer observed Melnyk following another vehicle too closely, police said. When Melnyk was stopped, the officer smelled alcohol on his breath, according to the report, and he failed field sobriety tests and refused to take a breath test. He was charged with operating under the influence of drugs or alcohol and failure to drive in the proper lane. He was released on $1000 bond and is scheduled to appear May 29 in Norwalk Superior Court.

Jessica Gallo, 19, of Battery Park Drive, Bridgeport, was charged early Saturday morning with driving under the influence on Greens Farms Road.

Westport resident Mark Hayward kept a stiff upper lip Thursday when a jury convicted him of ripping off an early rock musician and golf book author from Fairfield by concocting a scam to sell dirt from the former Yankee Stadium. Later, Hayward's wife cornered the jurors in a small alcove by the court's sole elevator. "Because of you, we have now lost everything and my husband's going to be deported!" she yelled at the jurors until a marshal came to their aid.

Two guests at a Westport party have been charged with stealing from the host earlier this year. Danielle MacVane, 25, of Handford Place, Norwalk, and Christina Burke, 25, of Seymour Street, Bristol, turned themselves in Wednesday on arrest warrants issued as a result of an investigation into the theft of money and property from a local house party in January, police said. MacVane and Burke were both charged with fifth-degree larceny and conspiracy to commit fifth-degree larceny. They were both released after each posted $5,000 bond, police said, and scheduled to appear May 28 in Norwalk Superior Court.

A Bridgeport man was arraigned Monday in Norwalk Superior Court after fleeing a motor vehicle accident Sunday on Interstate 95 in Westport where his car hit a State Police cruiser assisting a disabled vehicle. The truck driver, who had been sent to the scene to help with the disabled vehicle, was transported to Bridgeport Hospital with undisclosed leg and foot injuries.

Antron Fogler, 47, of Marianna, Fla., was arrested Saturday by Westport police at Glastonbury police headquarters, where he was held on a warrant charging him with breaking into a business on Wright Street here and then stealing and forging two business checks. He was charged with third-degree burglary, sixth-degree larceny and second-degree forgery. He was unable to post a $20,000 bond and was transferred Monday to Norwalk Superior Court.

John Wanat, 67, of Redcoat Road, was charged Sunday night with driving under the influence on Riverside Avenue. Wanat was stopped by police when a citizen reported the "erratic operation" of Wanat's vehicle, police said. When Wanat was stopped, an officer smelled the strong odor of an alcohol on his breath, police said. He also failed a field sobriety test, according to the report. Wanat was charged with driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol and failure to drive right. He was released on $500 bond, and he is scheduled to appear May 15 in Norwalk Superior Court.

A Westport woman charged earlier this year with illegally acquiring tens of thousands of dollars worth of possessions, either by writing bad checks or theft, faces new criminal charges this week in both Westport and Fairfield. [...] Sclafani was charged Monday on warrants by Fairfield police with larceny and evading responsibility for a motor vehicle accident. Westport police, meanwhile, have 10 other charges currently pending against Sclafani in Norwalk Superior Court, including several larcenies, issuing a bad check, breach of peace and a motor vehicle charge for failure to carry insurance.

Alyssa Caserta, 27, of Orange, was charged with driving under the influence after an early-Saturday accident near the construction site of the Westport Weston Family Y's Mahackeno center. Caserta told police she got off the wrong exit on the Merritt Parkway and wanted to turn around, but wound up in the construction site, according to the report.

Once Barrows was stopped, an officer smelled alcohol on his breath, according to the report, and he also failed field sobriety tests.

A man who police said claimed to be a witness to a Hide-Away Lane burglary early Saturday was later charged with committing the residential break-in. Nicholas Thomas, 28, of Drumlin Road, faces charges in connection with burglarizing the occupied home after police said that evidence directly linked him to the crime.

Hyde was pulled over by police after he failed to stop at a red traffic light at the downtown intersection of Post Road West and Riverside Avenue, according to the report. An officer smelled a "strong odor" of alcohol beverage on Hyde's breath, police said.

Clifton Griffiths, 61, of Bridgeport, was arrested on a warrant Thursday at Bridgeport police headquarters charging him with assaulting a nurse at Hall Brooke Hospital. He was charged with third-degree strangulation and assault of public safety or emergency personnel. He was unable to post a $2,500 bond and was transported later that day to Norwalk Superior Court for arraignment.

After Moreno was stopped, an officer said he smelled alcohol on her breath. Moreno was charged with operating under the influence of drugs or alcohol, failure to display lights and failure to drive right.

Lynn Cammarota, 52, of Bridgeport, was charged early Tuesday with driving under the influence. She was seen driving west on Treadwell Avenue and crossed the double-yellow traffic line several times before she was stopped, police said. After Cammarota stopped, an officer smelled alcohol on her breath, according to the report. She also had red, glassy eyes, police said, and failed field sobriety tests. Cammarota was charged with operating under the influence of drugs or alcohol. She was released on a $250 bond and is scheduled to appear April 22 in Norwalk Superior Court.

Evidence form the home was recovered in another jurisdiction that links that vehicle to the burglary, police said.

Pair charged with shoplifting at Stop & Shop An officer later saw Keegan and Denner walking east on Post Road East near the Fairfield town line with two green Stop & Shop bags, police said.

A Westport woman charged last month with possession of stolen goods -- ranging from benches to planters to a fountain -- worth more than $12,000, was arrested again Friday and charged with acquiring more than $30,000 in furnishings and artwork by writing fraudulent checks. Among the items police said they previously said that they found at Scalafani's home were wooden benches stolen from the Westport Arts Center and a wooden bench and metal bench taken from the Ultima Thule hair salon on Saugautuck Avenue.

Fire officials underscored the current threat of outdoor fires posed by weather factors -- the National Weather had issued a "Red Flag Warning" for the region Wednesday because of relatively dry conditions and low humidity.

Ana Fernandez, 50, of Saugatuck Avenue, was arrested Sunday night after a domestic dispute in which police said she argued with a relative and threatened that person with a knife. Fernandez was charged with disorderly conduct, reckless endangerment and threatening. She was unable to post a $2,500 bond and was transported the next morning to Norwalk Superior Court for arraignment.

Firefighters from Westport and Norwalk rescued a driver trapped in a car that tumbled down an embankment off the Merritt Parkway during Wednesday afternoon rush-hour traffic. The incident, reported shortly after 4 p.m., involved a Nissan Sentra that left the highway between northbound Exits 41 and 40, skidded down the embankment at the side of the road and struck a tree, entrapping the driver.

Andre Johnson, 35, of Milford, was arrested Friday night on an impaired-driving charge after he was stopped for driving on Post Road East without turning on his vehicle's lights, according to police. Johnson was charged with operating under the influence of drugs or alcohol, criminal impersonation and several motor-vehicle charges.

A 19-year-old Westport resident who police said triggered an alarm while burglarizing the Athletic Shoe Factory store on Sunday night was tracked down a short time later by the police K-9 unit. Officers dispatched to the scene to investigate the alarm reported seeing that a rear window of the Athletic Shoe Factory was propped open and merchandise from the store was stacked outside beneath the window.

A West Parish Road woman faces several counts of larceny after police said they found an eclectic array of stolen property -- ranging from concrete planters to benches to a fountain at her home following a disturbance she is accused of creating at Achorn's Pharmacy. Through "good police work," the officers noticed several items such as planters, concrete benches, figurines and a marble fountain, which matched the description of items reported stolen from the Glen Leroux antiques store on Riverside Avenue, said Capt. Sam Arciola.

Jesse Bauks, 39, of Easton, surrendered last Thursday at Westport police headquarters on a warrant charging him with driving under the influence last month. The arrest stems from a Feb. 25 incident in which Bauks' vehicle veered off the road into a snow bank in the parking lot of Staples High School, police said. Based on their investigation, police said Bauks was charged with operating under the influence of drugs or alcohol. He was released on $500 bond and is scheduled to appear April 2 in Norwalk Superior Court.

The pair was arrested Monday morning by Westport police detectives, assisted by investigators from the Connecticut Financial Crimes Task Force, based on a complaint filed Jan. 16 over the alleged theft. Dominique Phraviaxy, 39, of Craig Lane in Trumbull: first-degree larceny, first-degree conspiracy to commit larceny, third-degree larceny, third-degree conspiracy to commit larceny, eight counts of third-degree forgery, credit card theft, 290 counts of illegal use of a credit card and 290 counts of conspiracy to illegally use a credit card.

William Lyons, 36, of Canal Park, was arrested Wednesday after police said he tried to break into a business at 40-44 Post Road East. Lyons banged on the windows and doors of the Crumbs bake shop after he was denied entry because it was closed, police said. Lyons also yelled threats at the employees who were still inside, according to the report. (The initial information incorrectly indicated the business was the Tiffany & Co. outlet next door.) He was charged with breach of peace and threatening.

Phillip Rivera, 26, of Bridgeport, was arrested Tuesday by Bridgeport police in connection with a warrant from Westport police for Rivera's arrest on several local burglary charges. [...] of his arrest on those charges, he was unable to post bond and was transported the next morning by Westport officers to Norwalk Superior Court for arraignment, according to police.

Robyn Barrett-Aguiar, 20, of Norwalk, surrendered early last Thursday at Westport police headquarters on a warrant issued charging her with stealing items from a Westport home, where she had been employed as housekeeper-organizer since October 2012. During that time, the homeowner noticed items missing, but then realized items were being stolen, not misplaced, police said.

William Boucher, 27, of Summerville, N.H., was arrested about 6 a.m. Tuesday at a Lockwood Circle home by Westport police detectives and officers from the U.S. Marshal's Service after they received information that the suspect had been staying in Westport.
