Last Tuesday, the Westport Representative Town Meeting (RTM) designated the John Osborn House, located at 187 Long Lots Road, as a "historic property." The Historic District Commission, which previously estimated the small colonial dwelling to have been built in 1775, recently discovered that the house was actually built between 1683 and 1687. The John Osborn House is the oldest known home in Westport and the only home still standing from the 1600s.

The small, red colonial home is the oldest known home in Westport and the only home still standing from the 1600s. This open trap door leads to a secluded room, once used by colonial inhabitants as a refuge from intruders.
