The Westport Weston Family Y on Saturday, April 27, will open its doors for a free series of activities aimed at getting children and families to live healthier lives.

Healthy Kids Day at the 59 Post Road East Y is planned from 9 a.m. to noon and features active play and educational activities, the Y said. It is part of a promotion being carried out at nearly 2,000 YMCAs.

Timing of the event was planned to kick-start healthier behaviors throughout the summer, a critical out-of-school time for children's health, the Y said. Themes at the event include exercise and nutrition.

The program will include representatives of Earthplace, Whole Foods, New York Life, Kids First Dentistry and New England Smart Energy, the Y said.

First responders from Westport will run various activities for children and families. A water-safety talk is planned at 9:30 a.m.
