The real thing is finally here. Staples has routed every team they’ve come across in 2017. But every team isn’t Ridgefield. The Tigers come in a game behind the Wreckers in the FCIAC East and they are riding an impressive two game winning streak where they outscored Stamford and Central 95-8. Ridgefield’s lone loss came at the hands of Class LL defending state champs Darien on the opening week of the season — which feels like an eternity ago.
But the good news for the Wreckers is that last week’s bye week game them an opportunity to rest up and game plan in anticipation for the biggest game of the season. Last year, Staples got off to a hot start before stumbling when they hit the teeth of their FCIAC schedule. With Darien waiting in the winds next week, a win over the Tigers will go a long way in solidifying the Wreckers goal of being considered one of the top teams in the state.
Bottom Line: This game can make or break the season for the Wreckers. It will be close, but Staples needs to play mistake-free ball to come out on top.
