The League of Women Voters of Westport will host a brunch on Sunday, Sept. 29, during which residents can meet candidates for various offices in the Nov. 5 town election and discuss issues.
The event is planned from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the home of Pat and Sal Porio, 16 Salem Lane.
The brunch is open to the public at a cost of $20 per person. Reservations are required, the league said.
Candidates invited to attend include those for first selectman and second selectman, Board of Education, Board of Finance, Planning & Zoning Commission, Zoning Board of Appeals, probate judge, and the Representative Town Meeting.
During the brunch, the league will launch My Town/My Vote, its biennial community-awareness campaign to encourage greater participation in local elections. Its aim, the league said in a news release, is to assure that all Westport residents have an opportunity to learn about the "who, what, where, how and why" of voting in local elections.
Over the next few weeks, league volunteers will distribute informational brochures throughout the community, including at elementary school back-to-school nights and to commuters on railroad platforms, according to the release.
Reservations for the brunch may be made by calling brunch chairman Jackie Gordon at 203-803-3725 or emailing her at email@example.com. Checks also may be mailed to LWV Westport, P.O. Box 285, Westport, CT 06880.
