A woman was struck by a car Nov. 2 on Post Road East in Westport, sending her to Norwalk Hospital with serious injuries.
Police Capt. Sam Arciola said they responded around 7 p.m. to a report of a pedestrian struck on Post Road East near East Main Street. The first officer on scene found a woman lying in the road and began medical treatment. Firefighters and Westport EMS paramedics arrived on the scene shortly after the officer. The medics transported the woman -- who Arciola didn't identify that evening -- to the hospital.
According to a preliminary investigation, the woman was walking across the road and was struck in the eastbound lane, Arciola said. There was no crosswalk near the scene of the accident. The driver of the car stopped immediately and remained on scene, Arciola said.
Police shut down eastbound traffic near East Main Street as they investigated, diverting traffic at Compo Beach South. Only one lane remained open westbound. Firefighters set up lighting at the scene.
The investigation is being handled by the Westport police Accident Investigation Unit and Detective Bureau.
