Blanca Chivarria-Medina, 29, of Bridgeport, was charged with driving under the influence after an accident Friday on Wilton Road.
Chivarria-Medina hit the rear of another vehicle while at a red traffic light at the intersection of Wilton Road and Newtown Turnpike, police said. She stopped, but then got back in her vehicle and continued north on Wilton Road with heavy front-end damage, police said. She was then stopped by Wilton police in Wilton, according to the report.
Westport officers went to the scene and smelled a "strong odor" of alcohol on her breath, police said. She also failed a field sobriety test, police said.
Chivarria-Medina was charged with operating under the influence of drugs or alcohol, evading responsibility, following too closely, illegal operation of a motor vehicle under suspension and insurance coverage that fails to meet minimum coverage requirements.
Chivarria-Medina's bond was reduced by the bail commissioner to a promise to appear Jan. 21 in Norwalk Superior Court.
