Thandeka Mbutuma, 27, of Colony Road, was charged early Sunday with drunken driving.
An officer saw Mbutuma make a right turn from Riverside Avenue onto Bridge Street, police said, and when Mbutuma turned, she made a wide right turn causing the vehicle to cross the double-yellow traffic lines as she approached the bridge. Mbutuma's vehicle then veered to the right, almost striking the bridge with the passenger side of the vehicle, police said. Mbutuma then turned from Bridge Street onto Compo Road South, where she nearly struck the curb near a telephone pole, police said.
Once stopped, the officer said he noticed a "strong odor" of alcohol on Mbutuma's breath, police said. She also failed field sobriety tests, police said.
Mbutuma was charged with operating under the influence of drugs or alcohol and failure to drive in the proper lane. She was released on $500 bond and is scheduled to appear Dec. 12 in Norwalk Superior Court.
