KENT --Strong winds downed trees and branches across the region causing scattered power Saturday.

According to Connecticut Light & Power's Web site, more than 3,100 customers were without power.

Once the winds subsided in early Saturday afternoon, 113 were without power in Cornwall, 124 in Sharon and 105 in Sherman.

A tree fell on a power line on Barn Road at 7:41 a.m. Saturday, causing a local power outage. Because of strong winds, Connecticut Light & Power has been "very busy," responding to numerous outages in Litchfield County police reported.

The National Weather Service reported the highest wind gust at Danbury Airport was 33 mph. Average windspeed from the early morning to mid-afternoon averaged 17 mph, according to National Weather Service data. The highest wind gust recorded in the state was 48 mph at Groton.
