The Westport-Weston Chamber of Commerce has designated Saturday, Nov. 30, as Shop Small Saturday. The chamber is encouraging residents to get out and shop at the town's local businesses on that day. "Hot Deal" offers from chamber retail members will also be available on the chamber website, www.westportwestonchamber.com, from Nov. 22 through Dec. 1.

"Small Business Saturday is a day to support the businesses that invigorate our local economy and keep Westport's community thriving," said Lisa Parrelli Gray, chamber executive director. "Small businesses are the backbone of Westport's economy, and a big part of our community's charm."

American Express and the National Federation of Independent Businesses are backing the shop-local event, an effort to help consumers understand the positive effect their local spending can have on local communities like Westport, she said. Small businesses are major employers, they contribute revenue that helps keep local property taxes lower, and add local character and diversity to town centers.

The chamber's retail members include: Hansen's Floral Art, Bungalow, Montage Modern Vintage, Downunder Westport, Crossroads Hardware, Connie Cooper Design, Fisher Interiors, J. Pocker, Max's Art Supplies, Lux Bond & Green, Bottlerocket Wine & Spirit, Purple Feet of Westport Wine and Spirits, Aitoro, Athletic Shoe Factory, Bella Bridesmaid of Westport, Eileen Fisher, Eyeglasses.com, Indulge by Mersene, Painter's Supply of Westport, Silver of Westport, Soleil Toile, The Top Drawer, Walin and Wolff and Wishlist.
