Thirty students in the 4th Congressional District have been nominated for appointment to the U.S. military service academies, according to U.S. Rep. Jim Himes, D-4.

Among the nominees are:

Andrew Chappo of Westport, Staples High School -- U.S. Military Academy.

Kyle Webb of Stamford, Greens Farms Academy -- U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Military Academy.

Thomas Groenings of Weston, Weston High School -- U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.

Brooke Mackno of Fairfield, Fairfield Ludlowe High School -- U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Military Academy, U.S. Air Force Academy.

Zachory Tobin of Southport, Fairfield Ludlowe High School -- U.S. Naval Academy.

William Firisin of Easton, Fairfield College Preparatory School -- U.S. Military Academy.

Alexander Hauer of Bridgeport, Fairfield College Preparatory School -- U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.

Brendan Doran of New Canaan, Fairfield College Preparatory School -- U.S. Naval Academy.

Himes selected the nominees based on the recommendations of his Academy Nomination Panel and their academic record, potential for leadership, motivation to serve, community service, and participation in extracurricular activities.

"It is a privilege to nominate such outstanding candidates," Himes said in a statement. "I admire these young people's decision to accept the challenges of attending an academy, and have great respect for their desire to serve our country."
