Staples sophomore Melissa Exner and her horse Quilano Z were awarded Reserve Champion ribbons in two divisions of Darien’s Ox Ridge June 2015 charity event. The show is rated “A” level by the United States Equestrian Federation governing organization.

In the Hunter Division, the appearance of the horse is judged. The Equitation Division focuses on the appearance of the rider. This was only Exner’s and Quilano’s second competition in the Hunter and Equitation Divisions. The pair competed against more than 20 others in the Children’s Hunter Horse Division for 15-17 year olds, winning the blue ribbon in the Under Saddle class, and had second and third place finishes in the three-foot fences rounds, earning them Reserve Champion.

Riders from more than 20 states competed at the Ox Ridge Hunt Club’s bucolic outdoor grounds. Exner rides with the Starbuck Equestrian show team, based at Stepping Stone Farm in Ridgefield.
