Chamber Music Central will hold auditions for young musicians, 8 to 18 years old, on Sunday,Sept. 11 in Westport.

The auditions are not competitive, but serve as a guide for well-matched chamber trios, the group said.

Auditions are by appointment beginning at 1 p.m. at the Westport home of the group's director, Millette Alexander. The group's fall semester is an 11-week program that will culminate in a recital.

Auditions last 10 to 15 minutes, and students will be asked to play a scale of their choice and two contrasting pieces that demonstrate their level of ability, Alexander said in a news release.

A sight-reading exercise also will be conducted.

The program is scheduled to begin in late September, and offers 10 hours of coaching. Hours will be flexible to accommodate the availability of individual groups and the coach.

Chamber Music Central mission is to provide opportunities for young musicians to learn and perform chamber music, Alexander said. Launched in 1997 as a two-week summer festival, it now offers fall and spring programs.

Audition appointments may be made by calling Alexander at 203-227-4374 or by downloading an application at: www.chambermusiccentral.org.
