Cloudy skies early this morning across southwestern Connecticut are expected to clear later, but even though skies are sunny the daytime high temperature is expected to rise only to the mid-30s.

The National Weather Service, however, says the blustery winds of the last several days will fade, with a west wind registering between 9 and 13 mph.

Tonight should be mostly cloudy, with a low temperature around 30. There will be a southwest wind between 5 and 7 mph.

Tomorrow, there is a chance of showers, mainly before noon, and skies will be mostly cloudy, with a high near 48 degrees. Overnight, there remains a chance of showers, mainly after midnight, as temperatures fall to a low in the upper-30s.

There will still be a slight chance of showers during the day on Saturday, New Year's Eve, as temperatures rise to a high in the upper-40s.

Later, the region will ring in 2012 under cloudy skies, the NWS says, as the temperature falls to the 32-degree freezing mark.

The outlook for Sunday, the first day of the new year, is for partly sunny skies and a high temperature around 50 degrees, the weather service predicts.
