Wind and icy rain continue buffeting southwestern Connecticut this morning, the vestiges of a snowy storm that swept through the nation's Northeast beginning yesterday afternoon.

The rain and wind have prompted the National Weather Service to issue a coastal flood advisory for the region from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. today, with the greatest risk during the high-tide period from about 10:15 to 10:30 a.m.

Rain is expected to fall mainly before noon today, while the daytime high temperature rises to the low-40s. There will be a northeast wind 13 to 16 mph, becoming northwest in the afternoon and gusting as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent.

Tonight there is a slight chance of rain showers, snow showers, and sleet before 9 p.m. The temperature will dip to a low in the mid-20s. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.

On Friday, skies should be sunny, the NWS says, with a high temperature near 40 degrees. Nighttime will be partly cloudy, with a low temperature in the low-20s.

By Saturday, snow is likely again, with the NWS rating the odds at about 70 percent. Skies will be mostly cloudy, with a high temperature in the mid-30s. Snow is likely to continue into nighttime, the NWS says.

On Sunday, clearing is expected, with partly sunny skies and a high temperature in the low-30s. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent. Nighttime will be partly cloudy, with a low temperature about 20 degrees.

The outlook for Monday, New Year's Eve, is partly sunny and temperatures in the 30s, according to the weather service.
