The forecast for the Columbus Day holiday weekend in southwestern Connecticut is simple: sunny and warm.

Today, according to the National Weather Service, sunny skies set the stage for a warming trend that could hit records levels tomorrow.

The daytime high today is expected to reach about 77 degrees, with a west wind between 3 and 9 mph, the NWS says.

Tonight will be clear, with a low around 58 degrees. The slight west wind of about 5 mph will later become negligible.

On Monday -- Columbus Day -- sunny conditions will prevail again, with a high temperature near 81. Monday night will be partly cloudy, with a low around 57.
