Drivers in Westport are warned to expect traffic delays and road closures Sunday along the local stretch of the CT United Ride.

The annual motorcycle ride for charity — established in tribute to those who lost their lives in the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks — follows a 60-mile route through several area towns, including Westport, and police warn that temporary road closures in town will result.

The ride is scheduled to start at 11:30 a.m. in Norwalk and thousands of motorcyclists are expected to enter Westport about five minutes later via Saugatuck Avenue (Route 136) and continue along Riverside Avenue (Route 33) to the Wilton town line. The rest of the route includes Wilton, Redding, Bethel, Newtown, Monroe, Trumbull and ends in Bridgeport.

The local road closures are expected to last from 30 to 45 minutes, police said, adding that the motorcyclists will have a police escort and will not be stopping for traffic lights.
